Are you Christian and upset by all the bad words being said about your group because of the homophobia pushed by the Religious Right?

Tough shit.

Pretty much, yup. My response to the so-called Christians who whine that they're being unfairly tarred with the Phelps brush: "What are you doing about it? What are you doing to run Phelps and his bunch off? When have you stood up to the people espousing the positions you say you don't support and told them they're wrong? When have you actually stepped in when a bunch of bullies are making life miserable for the kid who can't stand up to them? What are you doing about all this? And if you aren't doing anything about it, if you're just standing there condoning it by your inaction, then why shouldn't I paint you with the same brush? Why don't you deserve it?".

If the power hungry sheep only spent even a fraction of their wasted time on Gay marriage feeding the hungry, tending to the the sick, and forcing their pedophile protecting, life-endangering patriarch to not only release the records on the thousands upon thousands of children and people abused by their hateful madhouse of a church, but to step down and go to prison as penance himself, this world would be a lot brighter.

I refuse to bow before a lord that would have me hate in his name. Let him do his own fucking dirty work.

Dayumn, someone got told.

It's always annoying though how, in comments in articles like these, you'll see people whining about a 'middle ground.' What middle ground? The one where we apologize for being born gay and the homophobes shake their heads in pity?

Now I'm all for gay marriage, but I am also for people having a right to their own opinions. The person writing in doesn't agree with gay marriage, big deal. She was just upset that this guy was painting all Christians with a broad brush. I personally think the response was a tad harsh.

I think he addressed the point perfectly. Her opinion on gay marriage is part of an overall problem that Christians treat gays or anyone else not part of their special club as subhuman. Openly with twerps like Pat Robertson, more subtle with this letter. Being an ex-Catholic, I used to see this crap every damned day.

Yes, he was painting them with a broad brush. THEY EARNED IT.

The way I see it, saying all Christians are ignorant bullies is like saying all gays are pedos, or all furries are into bestiality. See what I'm getting at here?

The woman who wrote that letter wasn't being hateful. She didn't say gays were subhuman. She just said "Hey be fair here. I don't agree with gay marriage, but I'm not gonna be a dick to people about it either" and she got blasted for it. That's just not right.

"I don't agree with gay marriage, but I'm not gonna be a dick to people about it either"

You know, in the 60's it was:

"I don't agree with blacks marrying whites, but I'm not going to be a dick to people about it either."

In the 1900's it was:

"I don't agree with women voting, but I'm not going to be a dick to people about it either."

And in all such cases, it was TOO FUCKING LATE. It's an actual case of right and wrong, and her side is as wrong as it gets. If she doesn't think gays should have the same rights, then she doesn't believe they are equal to her. She thinks they are less human than her.

Bullies? Not always, though they've been excellent enablers. But hell yes, they're ignorant.

Seriously. I'm not gonna begrudge someone for having the "wrong" opinion as long as they don't give me shit over it or try to cram it down my throat. And in courtesy, I'm not gonna try to shove my opinions down theirs. I got Christian friends who accept me, despite the fact I'm an agnostic bisexual and they don't agree with those two aspects of my life.

Now if they were willfully giving people a hard time, I'd definitely give them a piece of my mind.

Jumping in just to say that with "The way I see it, saying all Christians are ignorant bullies is like saying all gays are pedos, or all furries are into bestiality. " you totally miss the point. Gays and furries both lack a governing body (like the church) that tells them to do something, support or be against something. They are all three completely different social groups, and the associated misdoings all completely different. Christians have various, powerful churches telling them to homosexuality is sinful and they should vote against their rights- which does not at all fall in with the other two comparisons you made.

"If your message is that we should not judge people based on their sexual preferance, how do you justify judging entire groups of people for any other reason (including their faith)?"

Too many religious folks confusing 'defense from attack by religious group' as 'unfairly judging religious group'.
