(Hey look! I'm alive! Details to come later.)

This morning, I saw a demonstration of CCP's new game Dust 514, an FPS for the Playstation 3 that takes place in the same universe (and servers) as their starship MMO EVE Online. A highlight of the demo was showing how players in Dust can call on players in EVE to strike planetary targets from orbit. Meanwhile, most of the folks I know are instead going gaga over the next WoW update, which adds the Pandaren race to playable characters.

Call me silly, but isn't the ability to have people in one game able to call in fire support from a completely different type of game on a completely different type of platform in real time to be a tad more impressive (both technically and in terms of game play) than a new race of fuzzies that will be playing the same 90 goddamned levels as everyone else already had to?

(But hey, pandas.)

"Checkmate, this is King-2. I need arty support at grid reference C-14, offset 150 meters NW."

"King-2, this is Checkmate. One round inbound."

"Checkmate, this is King-2. Good shot, fire for effect."

"King-2, this is Checkmate. Firing now - thirty-six rounds inbound..."

Bingo. Now imagine that Checkmate is on a PC and King-2 is on the Playstation Network with a PS3. That's the mindblowing part.

It shouldn't matter what platform you're on - just make sure that the data sent is in a known format. After all, I could be writing this on a PC or a Linux box and, as long as I have a decent browser, the (likely Linux box) server that is handling LiveJournal can process it, and you can read it (even if you're on a MAC using a wildly different browser) - as we have a common data format and defined interface...

Nuke 'em from orbit...

I never did? I guess that harvest run in lowsec was just my screensaver then.

Then again, travelling between warpgates in a retriever sometimes gives the impression it is a screensaver XD

Well, there's your problem. Go into nullsec and watch the "elite PVP" crown wax poetically about their e-peens. It's the sort of thing that makes one go O_O.

I read about that recently, the Dust to Eve thing. That IS pretty damn cool.
However, the Pandaren females are so darn cute! ^_^
I'm still not playing WoW though.
